How many physical networks can I connect to?

The number of physical network connections is bound only by the hardware selected for the Distribution Console. This will depend on the number of NICs on the Distribution Console motherboard plus the number of NICs available via expansion slots. Expansion slot NIC cards can supply 1, 2 and even up to 4 NICs per card.

Can I use fiber network connections?

The SOTTC solution can support fiber network connections to the Distribution Console as well as to the thin clients.

Do I need a separate network for thin clients?

A separate network (in the logical sense) is required for the thin clients. This can be supported via a number of different configurations. A separate physical network is an acceptable solution. More often, a separate VLAN or subnetted network is allocated. This network cannot conflict with the IP addressing scheme of other networks that may be accessible by users on the back end.

Can I integrate with a Microsoft Active Directory server? Can I integrate with an external LDAP source?

Yes, tools are in place to integrate with both Microsoft Active Directory and external LDAP sources. Is VLAN tagging for network interfaces supported? Yes, the SOTTC Distribution Console supports IEEE 802.1q tagged VLAN frames.

Are Bonded network interfaces supported?

Yes, the SOTTC Distribution Console supports bonding of network interfaces.

How does the SOTTC solution support video?

Aside from the video support present in some back end solutions, streaming video is supported via http using the VLC (Video LAN Client) streaming video client. The video client resides on the thin client and supports streaming video over the network from a server.

Is audio supported? Is bi-directional audio supported?

Yes, audio is supported on the thin clients. Depending on the software being used to connect to the back end, bi-directional audio is also supported.

What kind of back end application servers are supported?

SOTTC supports a multitude of back end solutions including: Citrix, VMware View, Provision Networks, RDP, and xRDP.

Can external DHCP servers be used?

Yes, external DHCP sources can be configured to supply the thin clients with the information necessary to correctly operate in the SOTTC solution.

Can users attach multiple monitors to their thin clients?

Depending on the thin client, multiple monitors can be connected. Configurations of 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 monitors can be set up in a number of different layouts.
