Trusted Computer Solutions Awarded Patent for Network Security Detection Engine Technology

TCS’ CounterStorm Product Incorporates New Patented Technology for Greater Surveillance Detection

HERNDON, Va. – August 17, 2010Trusted Computer Solutions (TCS), is pleased to announce that patent 7,752,665 was issued on July 6, 2010, covering implemented research comprising "Detecting Probes and Scans over High-Bandwidth, Long-Term, Incomplete Network Traffic Information using Limited Memory". This patent covers the Surveillance Detection engine, one of the network security detection engines used in Trusted Computer Solution's CounterStorm product.

The Surveillance Detection algorithm was originally devised to alert sites to possible imminent intrusions by detecting the system surveillance (or scanning) that often precedes such attacks. Information which people are attempting to gather include currently active hosts, what services they are running, whether they are running a particular vulnerable application, etc. According to Ed Hammersla, Chief Operating Officer, Trusted Computer Solutions, “The Surveillance Detection algorithm was first designed pursuant to a government contract to find surveillance and attack precursors in live military networks. The technology was subsequently commercialized and has been deployed internationally and in large Fortune 500 companies. We have found experimentally that Surveillance Detection is also good for finding many other sorts of malware (or AUP-violating software), including worms, botnets, spambots, and peer-to-peer applications”.

“We are very proud of our excellent researchers and developers who created this significant innovation,” stated Mr. Hammersla. “This process allows for high speed, highly accurate, detection of malicious entities performing surveillance on a network”.

“The receipt of this patent is a result of innovative thinking and technical leadership,” stated Hammersla. “All of which contribute to further strengthen our leadership position in the Cyber Security arena.”
