Trusted Computer Solutions Announces Availability of Cross Domain Solutions on a Thin Client Notebook
SecureOffice® NetTop®2 — Thin Client™ cross domain solution now available with mobile thin client access to information located in multiple security domains
HERNDON, Va., January 29, 2007 — Trusted Computer Solutions (TCS), a leading supplier of Cross Domain Solutions for industry and government, today announced a new workspace choice for its SecureOffice NetTop2 — Thin Client software solution. Available today, users can now have mobile access to information from multiple security domains at different classification levels via a single thin-client notebook. This provides the industry’s first mobile cross domain solution with information access anytime, anywhere.
It starts with TCS’s NetTop2 — Thin Client application software, a proven cross domain access solution. Add the new Neoware m100 thin-client notebook, and government users who require cross domain access have secure mobility that they have never had before. If wireless operations are required, the Harris SecNet 54 Type 1 Secure Internet Protocol Encryptor device, can be used with the thin client notebook to provide internet security at the highest level. This new configuration lowers the total-cost of ownership through reduced infrastructure as multiple desktop computers, each providing access to a different security domain, can be replaced with Neoware’s m100, mobile thin-client notebook.
To ensure that the solution meets the security requirements for cross domain access, Trusted Computer Solutions erases the operating system that the Neoware mobile thin client notebook is initially installed with, and flashes a trusted Linux OS, required to run NetTop2 — Thin Client, on the device. This is completely transparent to the mobile user, but provides the secure environment for cross domain access needed to meet today’s operational needs.
Traditionally, thin client appliances are stateless devices and provide additional security in that there is no hard drive so no data is stored locally. Data and applications are on servers back on the network where they are more secure. However, this does not by itself solve the problem of DoD and Intelligence personnel who need access to data on Top Secret, Secret, Classified, and Unclassified networks. They require a cross domain solution that allows them to access multiple domains at various security levels from a single machine.
"This is an ideal solution for military field personnel and others that are constantly on the move and require as little infrastructure as possible to access secure information," stated Ed Hammersla, chief operating officer, TCS. "Field personnel can now access data from multiple secure domains without risking data falling into the wrong hands and without the expense and immobility associated with traditional approaches. This means our mobile personnel can have access to the information they need, across multiple security domains, no matter where they are located - in a remote office or on the battlefield."
"We’re very happy to be part of this TCS solution," said Matt Wrabley, Executive Vice President of Neoware. "Together with the inherent security of thin clients, plus the secure mobility provided by the Neoware m100 thin client notebook, the NetTop2 — Thin Client application provides the ultimate in highly flexible, incredibly secure computing. Neoware is committed to providing solutions that secure organizations' desktops and data while better using their IT resources."
