Military Training Technology Magazine Names Trusted Computer Solutions to Prestigious List of “Top Simulation & Training Companies”

Trusted Computer Solutions’ SimShield Enables Interoperability between Previously Discrete Simulation Activities

HERNDON, Va. – September 22, 2009Trusted Computer Solutions, Inc. (TCS), a leading developer of cross domain and cyber security solutions, today announced it is included in Military Training Technology Magazine’s 8th annual “Top Simulation & Training Companies” list that recognizes companies who make a significant impact on military training. TCS developed SimShield™, a fixed-format cross domain guard solution, to support the specialized needs of the simulation and live training communities. SimShield provides the capability to label, segregate, protect and exchange data between logical training ranges executing at different sensitivity or classification levels, which allows them to communicate and interact securely.

SimShield consists of two components: the Policy Editor™ and the Trusted Bridge™. The Policy Editor is an easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI) that allows the creation of security classification and reclassification rules to be enforced later by the Trusted Bridge. The Trusted Bridge is the guard component that allows the connectivity of training and simulation networks operating at different security classification levels. SimShield can be used for Distributive Interactive Simulation (DIS), High Level Architecture (HLA) and Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA) environments.

Earlier this year, Pacific Air Force (PACAF) and the 353rd Combat Training Squadron led the effort to take SimShield through the Secret and Below Interoperability (SABI) certification process. As a result of this effort, their distributed live networks, which operate under different security classifications, can now communicate securely with one another. In addition, the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) Warrior Preparation Center (WPC) will use SimShield to enable secure and realistic warfighter training.

“Without SimShield in place, differently cleared warfighters participating in training and simulation exercises cannot communicate with one another without the risk of disclosing sensitive data,” said Ed Hammersla, Chief Operating Officer, TCS. “In many cases, the result is that exercises must be performed multiple times with different participants and different data, limiting the effectiveness of the training exercise and increasing costs. SimShield meets the challenge of creating a more realistic training environment without setting up and running multiple exercises. It is a unique solution to the industry and we are pleased that Military Training Technology magazine recognizes the important role that our solution plays in facilitating troop readiness.”

Awardees for the list were selected by Military Training Technology’s editorial board and a panel of independent experts who reviewed all applications. The criteria for submission included total military sales, end-user feedback, innovations and requirements for a solution.
